Safety & Quality

At Milk by Mom, we are moms first. Everything we do starts with our babies’ safety in mind. We go the extra mile to ensure every aspect of our operations meets the highest standards and that no corners are ever cut in the safety and quality of our process.

Our process and facility is compliant with cGMP regulations set forth by the FDA. This includes guidelines covering appropriate personal hygiene practices, design and construction of the facility, maintenance of the facility and equipment, facility sanitation, sanitary operations, and process controls.

We also follow breast milk storage and handling standards set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

We want to make sure you are confident in our services so we are transparent with all the details of our process.

Safety & Quality

Cleaning and Sanitation

We only work on one mama's milk at a time. We thoroughly clean, sanitize, and disinfect all surfaces and equipment in between batches. No mama’s milk will ever touch another’s.

Food Safety Credentials

We follow a strict sterile handling protocol process when handling your breast milk. All our staff is food safety handler and aseptic technique certified. We carefully inspect, document, and label your milk as soon as it arrives, then store it in a dedicated labeled bin until we are ready to process.

Sterile Handling

Our facility uses an ISO5 laminar flow hood to ensure no contamination is introduced during packaging. We use high-barrier mylar bags to protect against moisture, oxygen, UV, and other contamination.

Temperature Control Monitoring

We take and record your milk’s temperature at arrival. Our freezer is remotely monitored to ensure your breast milk always stays frozen. Our freezers and freeze dryers are also supported with backup generators in case of a power outage.

Quality Control Testing

We conduct water activity checks for every batch using laboratory-grade testing equipment. This test ensures your breast milk powder will be stable for up to 3 years without refrigeration when stored under adequate conditions.

Environmental Testing

We conduct regular environmental testing of our processing rooms and equipment to ensure our sanitization practices effectively prevent contamination during processing. We routinely test for total aerobic plate counts, E. coli, yeast, mold, Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Cronobacter sakazakii.
