¡Hola mamas!
This year's Hispanic Heritage Month theme, "Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America," touches my heart as a Latina business owner and a mother of two wonderful little girls. Our heritage, filled with culture, food, music, and especially the incredible bond of family, is something I cherish deeply.
Prosperity through Entrepreneurship
Hispanics are making incredible strides in entrepreneurship. From family-owned businesses to thriving startups, like my own venture, Milk by Mom, we're leaving our mark. Being a Latina business owner, I've felt the challenges and the sweet victories that come with it. The relentless determination, strong work ethic, and boundless creativity are just some pieces of my heritage I know will drive my business' success.
Power in Unity
Hispanic Heritage Month is a beautiful reminder of the power we hold when we stand united. It's a time to lend our support, help each other rise, and uplift our community. The strength in our solidarity and the mentorship we offer one another can lead to real progress. By supporting fellow Hispanic and Latino entrepreneurs, sharing our experiences and wisdom, and fostering networking opportunities, we magnify our collective influence, leaving a lasting mark on the American business landscape.
Progress Through Cultural Preservation
Preserving our cultural heritage is vital to our progress. Our traditions, languages, customs – these treasures enrich the tapestry of American culture. As a mother, passing down our heritage to my girls is non-negotiable. Teaching our children about our roots instills a deep sense of pride and a lasting connection. These values will empower them to shine in whatever path they choose.
Our role in driving prosperity, power, and progress in America deserves to be celebrated, especially during Hispanic Heritage Month. As a Latina business owner, a mother, and a daughter, I'm wholeheartedly committed to preserving our heritage and extending support to fellow entrepreneurs, especially other hardworking mompreneurs. If you are a small business owner who's also a mom or Latina, let's connect.Â
Let's embrace this month, honor our achievements, recognize our struggles, and reaffirm our dedication to crafting a brighter future for all. Together, we have the power to steer prosperity, unite with strength, and inspire progress for generations to come.Â
About Hispanic Heritage Month
Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively.
